HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
,
The idea of what would become Threshold Theater started years ago when I saw a lack of theaters portraying the wide spectrum of the LGBTQ experience. Having worked in theater for two decades, and been a part of a few theater companies, I knew the work involved to fill the gap was immense and I didn’t think I could do it. Finally it was time to take the leap. I believe that there is a place for an LGBTQ theater that gives the stage over to tell fresh stories from across the spectrum, no matter age, race, gender or religion. On January 21, 2019 I met at the 19 Bar in Loring Park Minneapolis with James Zappa, and Nick Mrozek. I had worked in theater with both of them in the past and thought they brought a valuable set of skills. I asked if they would be interested in helping start an LGBTQ theater that produces fresh works and they both said yes. It was James at that first meeting who came up with the name Threshold Theater from a line in Angels in America, "This is the very threshold of revelations..." As a gay man growing up in the 90's in a small conservative state, reading and seeing Angels in America, a play I regard as one the best of the latter 20th century, it sparked my passion for theater. I felt like theater had the power to change the world, as it changed me. - David Schlosser- Co-Founder / Managing Director Founders (L to R) David Schlosser, James Zappa, Nick Mrozek
